Gasharu is a family-owned farm and processing station that has been growing and processing Rwanda’s finest coffee here for over 40 years, supporting local farming communities.
Much of the funds raised are invested in the community, such as cattle purchases and social development programs.
The Gasharu processing station and water mill is located on the shores of Lake Kivu, just a short drive from Nyungwe National Park, one of the largest and best preserved montane rainforests in Central Africa, home to a huge biodiversity and an estimated 25% of Africa’s primates.
The altitude, soil and climate in this area are exactly what coffee trees love most.
As a result, the coffee farms around Gashar get plenty of rainfall, making the cherries juicier and the coffee fruitier.
