Kenya Mukuyuni Washed
Kenya Mukuyuni is a selection of coffee produced by farmers from the Mukuyuni Farmers Cooperative Society, located in the Machakos region of Kenya. The cooperative is made up of 932 members who grow coffee at an altitude of between 1700 and 2000 metres above sea level. This coffee undergoes a full washing process which involves sorting the cherries, removing the skins, wet fermentation for 12-24 hours, thorough washing and then drying on raised beds. The result is a clean and vibrant flavor profile. Kenya Mukuyuni offers a juicy and complex flavour with notes of apple, apricot and raisin, complemented by citrus acidity. The cooperative is progressive, promotes organic growing techniques and provides educational services to its members. Interestingly, at least half of the cooperative’s 10-member board must be female, although in the last year women made up less than 38 % of the membership. Their commitment to quality and sustainability is especially evident in the communal facilities and the expeerimental farms, where they teach farmers about crop diversification and organic farming.
